My grandfather's older sister Louise passed away at 97 today. Its hard to be sad, because she was sick, was very forgetful and had no joy in life anymore, but I've lost yet another link to my childhood; and my family has lost another link to its roots. Just to give an idea: Louise's grandmother was born in 1828. Louise remembered her very well, as she was taken care of at home at the end of her life when Louise was a young teenager. Tracing this back meanst that up until 11/11/2008, I could have gone and talked to my aunt, and asked her about her grandmother, and received an answer...about a woman who was 33 years old when the American Civil War started. I was literally 1 person removed from someone who could remember when Martin Van Buren was elected President of the US. That's just irreplaceable, personal feelings aside.

On the bright side, it looks like her older brother Alexander, who is 98, will make it to 100...he's only got 14 more months to go. Heh.

Dear Self:

By your diligent 9 hour study session, you have moved about a foot away from the brink of academic fuckup-ery. Since in your inifinte wisdom you realized you were ON a brink, which indeed has been a problem in the past, I congratulate me. However, the fact that it took you three weeks of class to get to a brink really ought to be a clue. Yes, you were semi-sick in the middle of a week, but for realz, was making some flashcards such a big deal? How about, it wasn't. So now you have a day's respite before you move toward that brink again. Use it wisely, and perhaps you can move further from the edge and get your ass out of the depression that is tending toward a hole, mixed metaphors permitting.

Love and kisses,

Me.

Erica lost the south wall of the garage, the new roofing that was put on less than two months ago, both garage doors and her hand-pedal tricycle. We also lost the storms and screens to turn our porch into an enclosed space. Luckily we did not lose the wood that was in the north bay of the garage, because the wall prevented the fire from spreading completely to that side. I'm stunnificated.

Is that a typo or is it really supposed to be orison...whatever that means?
–Dan, Windsor, ON, Canada

A: From Doug Beyer, Magic Creative Writer:

Thanks for your question, Dan. An orison is a word that means "petition to a deity or higher spirit." It's essentially a prayer, but with a slightly less traditionally religious connotation. The Skybreaker hears the pleas of victims of dark beings all across the plane of Shadowmoor, and as you cast the spell again and again, it comes to the aid of every one of them.

Gosh, maybe you ought to learn what a DICTIONARY is for, Dan the Dumbass. In fact, maybe you should quit living in Canada, and cross the river and live in Detroit, so you can claim to be as stupid as most AMURRIKINS are today.

WTF.

I mean, I know my vocabulary is not average, but for realz.
High fructose corn syrup is worse than t3h debbil! Which is why I am so pleased that i was able to go to Meijer, and buy snacky-snacks and other assorted not-really-good-for-yous and was able to buy things that didn't have any HFCS in it. In fact, the only thing I bought that might have it is the low-cost bulk candy, and I wasn't expecting to get sugar in those. Please folks, if there's a meijer in your area, try to buy their Organics line. Everything i've eaten from the Organics lineup has been extremely good and only costs a little bit more, and supporting their brand shows that people WANT food made w/out pesticides and HFCS and are willing to pay for it. Tonight I bought the organic Raisin Bran cereal, and I'll bet its giong to taste like the rasin bran i ate when i was but a wee lad at my Aunt Marianne's knee (it was her favorite) which was before the HFCS bullshit was in high swing. The organic Chipsters Chocolate Chip Cookies....DIVINE.

I've been trying really hard lately to avoid HFCS even if i've not been doing any other food changes, and i've actually, without trying, probably dropped 7-8 pounds, enough so that my suitcoat was buttonable when I had my concert last thursday. Not sure if my friends more versed in logic will see this as a correlation causation fallacy, but I can't help but think there's a connection, since i literally have not done anything else to change how I eat, such as a) not eating out b) not eating junk food c) exercising d) blah blah e) blah blahdidy blah bliddy blah...etc. Who knows? only the shadow knows.

I like to sing-a! about the moon-a and the june-a and the spring-a!
